Law & Order SVU Recap 10/13/22: Season 24 Episode 4 The Steps We Cannot Take

Tonight’s episode begins with Benson’s son being dropped off at the station, she introduces him to Muncy. Benson reminds her about doing something about her wardrobe.

Then we see a man working on repair in his restaurant, his name is Rav Singh and he gets upset when his daughter, Priya, calls him dude and says whatever to him. His wife Nisha, reminds him that he wanted to come to America.

Muncy is out shopping with Velasco, she says she is color blind and Benson wants her to get a new wardrobe.

Rav is still working in the restaurant, it is late and he sees someone come into the kitchen area with his face covered in a mask and holding a gun. His wife is in the shower when she hears gunshots, she tries to call her phone and call 911, and they answer but she doesn’t have time to say anything the shooter comes in and shoots her too.

Muncy and Velasco are on the scene, they go into the teen daughter’s room and find birth control in her drawer. Muncy says she didn’t run away, her phone is on the nightstand, and she was taken. Looks like she was the target of the home invasion. The parents are both in surgery. Muncy says the kidnapper took some clothes, which means he is planning on keeping her for a while. At Mercy Hospital, Nisha is awake, she says the shooter was asking for Priya before he shot her. She tells them about the shooter, he was a big man, with dirty hands and his boots were strange, when she fell she noticed there was some kind of apron on them. She goes on to say they did have a contractor in the restaurant, but he had an argument with Rav.

Fin speaks to the contractor, one of his employees had an argument with Raw because raw said he was looking at his daughter. The worker was a welder and they do wear boots that kind of looked like they have an apron in front. The name of the worker is Elias Olsen, he hasn’t paid his union dues since 2015. They have a last known address. A whole team heads to the address, they all have bulletproof vests on since he could have shot the mother and father. They look inside the house window, and there is a doll house. The front door is broken down, and Benson calls for Priya, Fin orders some of the team to check the woods out back. There is a door that is bolted, Benson gets it opened and they head to the basement to look around. They find Priya and other people. Fin tells Benson that neighbors say that Elias was quiet and kept to himself. DMV confirmed a white chevy pickup took Priya. The press arrives.

One of the victims, Julianne Moore disappeared 12 years ago, and Nadine Chavez disappeared 10 years ago. And, Nadine is three months pregnant. The doctor says they are Mal nourished, with evidence of sexual assault and no medical or dental work for years.

Muncy questions Priya, she wants to see her parents. Muncy says they need help first. She says the man threw her in the back of his truck and told her to stay down, she begged him to take her back, and she cried, but any time she said something he would just tell her good girls to get good things, bad girls get bad things. So, she stopped talking.

One of the women recognize Elias, she tells Rollins that he was in a hurry. He was using food as a means of control.

At My Valley Foods, Elisa is shopping when Fin, Velasco, Muncy, and others find him and arrest him. Elias had a firearm, he calls for his daddy when he is handcuffed.

Elias is blaming his father, Soren. Elias is smarter than he looks, he wants his lawyer, Fin tells Benson that Muncy, went all gang unit on his ass, and broke one of their radios on his head. Benson tells him to have Muncy apologize.

Raw is awake, Priya and her mother are thrilled.

Muncy tells Velasco that Elias’ lawyer showed up. Muncy apologizes to Elias, he says it is ok even though he needed eight stitches. Elias says he didn’t touch Priva. Elias was buying ice cream for Priya, he says she was good. Elias says his father Soren, is out hunting, he drives around different places. He took Priva because he wanted his father to be proud of him. His lawyer says Elias is the victim, he is a lifelong victim of abuse by his father. Elias says the women had full reign of the house when he was there, they could have left any time they wanted.

Gillian says that Soren took her, alone. He broke her fingers that night to teach her the rules, and her ankles once when she tried to escape. After being good, he let her keep Bella, she kept her sane. Benson asks where Soren goes hunting. The other girl tells Rollins that Soren made them have sex all the time, but when he would go hunting, he made Elias in charge. She says he left a month or two ago, time passes word for them.

Turns out Elias has the same DNA as Bella, Soren raped the woman for over a decade because one of them is Bella’s mother.

On the property, cadaver dogs find Sorin’s body, looks like he is not going to return. The body has been buried for six weeks, looks like it is a homicide, he was shot in the back of the head. And, there is a second body, a newborn that looks like he was choked. The baby’s burial was respectful, unlike Sorin’s grave.

Elias is shown a picture of his father’s corpse, he says he would never hurt his daddy, one of the girls must have gotten in his room. Elias starts crying and says he was just trying to make his dad proud of him.

The news has to be given to the women about Soren being dead, and the baby boy. Soren broke the baby’s neck because he had too many mouths to feed. Both women buried the babies. One of the women tries to blame it on Priya, but Benson has a hunch, it was her. She confesses, and so does the other woman, they both say it was self-defense.

Benson speaks to Bella, she knew Soren was buried in the backyard, and she knew about the baby. She knew where Elias kept his gun.

It looks like whoever shot Soren did it to protect the unborn baby.

Soren’s homicide will not be pursued.
