Kim Kardashian-Wests Mugler Met Gala Look Inspired By Sophia Loren Watch Video

Kim Kardashian-West stunned at the 2019 Met Gala but her look was inspired by Hollywood sex symbol Sophia Loren. The tidbit was revealed during an interview with Vogue. Kim stated that once she heard the Met Gala’s 2019 theme would be “Camp,” she and Kanye were on a group call and determined they would go with French designer Manfred Thierry Mugler. They had eight months to prepare what would be Kim Kardashian-West’s slick, silica organza outfit that fitted tightly and created a hip to waist ratio that left the Internet shook.

Jean Baptiste, Manfred Thierry Mugler’s manager, appeared in the video interview and spoke about the inspiration behind Kim Kardashian-West’s outfit, as well as her Mister Pearl designed corset.

At one point in the video, Kim Kardashian-West showed the public her waist-cinching undergarment and explained she couldn’t fully sit down but only half-sit in the garment.

Mister Pearl not only designs some of the most famous corsets in fashion but is also a corset wearer.

Sophia Loren was known for her small waist making it more fitting that she was the inspiration behind Kim’s Met Gala look.

Jean Baptiste held up a photo of Sophia Loren as she stood up out of the water and Kim Kardashian-West said she went for a “wet look” including her hair, and that they envisioned combining “California-girl style with the visionary works of Manfred Thierry Mugler.”

Baptiste also said that Mugler saw Kim Kardashian-West as a “Venus of beauty.” Whether intentional or coincidental, the color palette used in Kim’s Met Gala dress is reminiscent of Botticelli’s “The Birth Of Venus.”

In the video below, you can see as Mugler’s team worked together fitting Kim for the dress and even Kim was impressed by the painstaking detail to her exact measurements that were executed in its creation. From the Mister Pearl corset to the hip-hugging waist-wrapping details, Kim’s dress was crafted perfectly to accentuate her unique curves.
