Houston Gay Scene?

I have to work in Houston for about 2 months, beginning this Monday. Any DLers in that area? What's the gay scene like? Bathhouse fun anywhere decent? Fun gay bars? Thanks for any information.

Montrose used to be the spot but it’s been slowly taken over by yuppies and well to do straights. Houston actually has a good gay scene and little bars all over town.

I used to live in Houston and spent many a night at the gay bars around Montrose. It's a big city, so there was a respectable gay scene.

Also my Houston tip in general, try to live and hang out within the 610 loop. That is the cultured and progressive part of Houston.

I worked there for a year and really learned to like it. It is a big and very diverse city with lots of options and activities. I think it’s the best city in Texas. Not as full of cowboy Texas attitude like Dallas, not small and boutique like Austin, nicer and richer than San Antonio.

There are still a good number of bars on Montrose - more than most gayborhood sin US. I used to take a cab (now Uber) to Westheimer and Montrose and just walk to the bars. A little sketchy late night on the dark streets east of George’s / Eagle. But Montrose in general is very walkable. Good restaurants. Hugo’s on Westheimers is the best Tex Mex I’ve ever been to. There was a bathhouse (flex?) but it is near downtown so a separate taxi trip. Nice though never saw it that active during week.

I’m always glad to spend time in Houston. Better than 90% of th towns I get stick in for work. Though not small town friendly, I found people were definitely friendlier than any other big city in Texas (or Atlanta or Florida). Enjoy,

Do not walk in the Montrose area. It is dangerous on foot. Too many homophobes in the city.

Just be aware. A lot of the bars are very close. But there is one bar that is farther west of Montrose - about 10-12 rally dark streets- that I would think twice about. Otherwise, most of the other bars are find to walk around between. A fun city compared to most non-coastal cities.
