Country music is well and truly on the rise in the UK thanks to homegrown acts such as Ward Thomas, and The Shires. While international acts such as Shania Twain, and Lady Antebellum are helping the genre grow even further in Britain.
And another international country act gaining recognition in the UK is the American Christina Taylor, who has just released her brand new single ‘Don’t Look Good In Your T-Shirt Anymore’.
Here we talk exclusively to Taylor about her latest releases, the UK country scene, dream collaborations and much, much more:
Growing up who inspired your love of country music?
I grew up listening to Shania Twain a lot as a little girl, but as I got older Eric Church and Tim McGraw really made me fall in love with country music.
Who are your all time musical icons?
My all time music icons are P!nk and Eric Church. They are so raw and real and I definitely look up to them for that.
Can you remember how old you were when you wrote your first song?
I was probably 14 when I wrote my first song. I can’t remember what it was about and I’m sure it wasn’t very good but I have definitely learned a lot about the writing process since then.
Country is on the rise in Britain, are you excited about the country music scene in the UK at the moment?
Yes I’m definitely excited about the country music scene in the UK right now! There is so much opportunity in that market and the UK fans are absolutely amazing!
Which UK acts are you into at the moment?
I’m really loving Sasha McVeigh who is a country artist from the UK, and I’ve also been into Ed Sheeran for a while now.
What was the main inspiration behind your last single ‘That Girl?
‘That Girl’ was the first song I wrote when I got to Nashville, and I was going through my first break up. I was once a head strong, independent women, and then I met a boy and he made me crazy. I became THAT GIRL everybody talks about. A lot of people find themselves in this situation when in a bad relationship and I wanted ‘That Girl’ to be an anthem for them. I wanted to say, “This is where you are now, but it doesn’t have to stay this way. There is a happy ending and you can be happy and independent!”

Can fans expect an album from you soon?
I am hitting the studio within the next few months to record some killer songs I’ve written, so yes we will have some new music for everyone soon!!
Do you plan on touring anytime soon?
Right now, I’m playing some shows in Nashville and some surrounding areas but I’m primarily focused on writing and recording right now. The most important thing is that I have good music, and once I have that, then the touring will follow!!
What do you hope to achieve over the next ten years?
I hope that I can impact the world in a positive way with my music within the next ten years. I want my music to touch people and help them get through whatever they’re going through. I also hope to have a platform big enough to be able to help in other areas as well. I want to change the world, one awesome song at a time!
