Christie Brinkley Breaks Arm During Dancing With The Stars Rehearsal, Daughter Will Take Her P

Former supermodel Christie Brinkley is out on Dancing With The Stars before the season even begins. Brinkley reportedly broke her arm during a recent rehearsal, and her youngest daughter Sailor Brinkley-Cook will be stepping in to take her mom’s place.

Brinkley announced on Good Morning America Monday morning that her 21-year-old daughter would be joining DWTS after the 65-year-old tripped over her partner’s foot during a turn at rehearsal causing her to fall and suffer “injuries which required surgery to her wrist and arm.”

“Showbiz is all about getting a break, and Sailor and I both got one on Dancing with the Stars this season,” Brinkley said in a statement. “Sailor joined the cast when I got mine … ouch somebody stop me, it hurts to laugh!”

In their own statement, ABC and BBC Studios said that they wish Brinkley a full and speedy recovery, and they look forward to seeing her in the audience whenever possible to support Sailor.

The Sports Illustrated model has started rehearsals and she is planning to wear her mom’s performance outfit, which ABC News says “did not need to be altered at all.”

Sailor – who is the daughter of Brinkley and her ex-husband Peter Cook – says she felt a high over attacking something she was afraid of but felt like it was something she needed to do.

“I think it will change me,” said Brinkley-Cook.

She added that she is doing DWTS for her mom, and she wants to make her happy and proud. Sailor also revealed that her mom loves dancing and performing, and “getting hurt was her worst nightmare.”

There is a history on DWTS of celebrities dropping out of the show due to injury. Before Season 8 began, Jewel quit after fracturing her tibias in both legs and Nancy O’Dell bowed out when she suffered from torn knee cartilage.

Other stars that dropped out of the show in the past due to injuries include Dorothy Hamill, who suffered a spinal injury. And, both Kim Zolciak-Biermann and Tamar Baxton had to call it quits early because of blood clots.

There will be twelve celebrities competing for the Mirror Ball trophy during Season 28. In addition to Brinkley-Cook, Bachelorette Star Hannah Brown and Queer Eye star Karamo Brown are part of the cast, as well as former NFL linebacker Ray Lewis, former NBA forward Lamar Odom, former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer, and Dawson’s Creek alum James Van Der Beek.
