Chinchilla, QLD: Man in serious condition after being shot in the neck

Emergency services have burst into action after a man has suffered serious gunshot injuries in rural Queensland.

Police were called to a property on Chinchilla, located approximately 290km northwest of Brisbane in the Western Downs region, after hearing reports the man was shot in the back of the neck.

The incident is understood to have unfolded at approximately 1:30pm on Rodger St, only a short distance from the centre of town.

Paramedics first transported the man, whose age is unknown, to Chinchilla Hospital where they are preparing to airlift him to a Brisbane hospital for further treatment.

He remains in a serious condition with injuries to his neck.

A Queensland Police spokesperson could not confirm whether anyone had yet been arrested over the incident.

They described the shooting as a “fresh” and active situation.

The incident occurred a short distance from where two police officers were shot to death at a Wieambilla property in December 2022.

Chinchilla officers Constable Matthew Arnold and Constable Rachel McCrow were killed, and two other officers injured, while performing a welfare check on Nathaniel Train on behalf of NSW Police.

Train, along with his brother Gareth and sister-in-law Stacey, rained bullets on the four unsuspecting officers.

They then bunkered down with a litany of firearms for a six-hour siege against specialist police forces, before they were shot and killed by officers.

More to come.
