Black Lives Matter rally planned for Tuesday at Boise City Hall

A Black Lives Matter rally has been planned to take place Tuesday at Boise's City Hall.

The poster that's been circulating around the community reads "Defund the Police," and "Fund Social Services."

The poster also asks people follow current health guidelines including "Wear a Mask. Maintain Social Distancing. Wear Gloves. Wear Eye Protection."

The event is being held from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

One member of the local Facebook community "Treasure Valley Crime, Community and Safety" said he represents the local Black Lives Matter chapter and wanted to dispel any rumors that this wouldn't be a peaceful rally.

"I have seen a lot of fear on the boards about the peaceful rally at City Hall tomorrow and I would like to clarify how we are going to conduct ourselves," the member said. "We are going to peacefully discuss reallocating public funds to better serve the community. We want a proactive approach to serving our community's needs, not solely reacting with punishment. Boosting those services takes money, which as we all know is a finite resource."

He had more to add:

  • We are not brandishing any weapons.
  • We are not initiating any physical altercations.
  • We are not engaging in any screaming matches.
  • My team and I are there to deescalate any conflicts with anyone that didn't get the memo this is a peaceful rally.
  • We are going to city hall to engage the city leadership in an intelligent debate about policy and budget.
  • We are wearing glasses and masks to reduce the chance of spread to our mucus membranes.
