Billy Ray Cyrus Teams Up With Lil Nas X To Deliver Remix Of Trap Country Hit Old Town Road

‘Old Town Road’ by new artist Lil Nas X quickly became the go-to background music for Tic-Toc users. The hit spilled to social media apps like Twitter and Instagram and has now received a feature from Billy Ray Cyrus after it was unjustly removed from the Billboard country charts.

The country-infused trap hit quickly climbed the ladder up the Billboard country charts before it was deemed as not meeting the standards of a country song. The decision was questioned by artists and fans alike who cite pop-sounding tracks from Florida Georgia Line and Sam Hunt for being able to be considered as multi-genre.

Quickly, it was apparent to many that the decision to take the song out of the country category may have been about race instead of reason.

Billy Ray Cyrus was a fan of the song before the drama and decided to call Lil Nas X up and hop on a remix. The 19-year-old was happy to oblige due to the fact that he tweeted about wanting Billy Ray to be on his track late last year when it first gained traction.

The remix has no doubt made the song even more popular than it already is and sparked many memes. Will Smith even caught wind of it and asked to be in the music video when he uploaded a clip of his movie ‘Wild Wild West’ with the song playing in the background.

Miley Cyrus’ dad reacted to all the noise his feature made on the internet.

He tweeted: “It was so obvious to me after hearing the song just one time. I was thinking, what’s not country about it? What’s the rudimentary element of a country and western song? Then I thought, it’s honest, humble, and has an infectious hook,  and a banjo.  What the h*** more do ya need? A few days passed and I went to the studio to do vocals. When I finished the pass, I whistled at the end of the song. Thats when the engineer stood up and said, “that shit is fire” We’re keeping that! Glad you guys are diggin’ the tune, love seeing all your meme’s….  #OTR.”
